Hi, I'm John β your personal SAT/ACT coach.
For the past several years, I've helped students raise their scores, boost their confidence, and earn acceptance to schools they once thought were out of reach.
My tutoring approach is grounded in clarity over confusion, strategy over memorization, and confidence over anxiety.
Every student deserves a plan that works for their brain β not a generic one-size-fits-all program. I break the SAT and ACT into simple, repeatable patterns students can master.
Parents tell me the biggest changes aren't just in scores β it's in how their kids feel about themselves. That's what keeps me teaching.

What Students & Parents Say
"John started with helping my son with SAT prep, but has branched out into helping him with algebra 2 homework. John is super capable with both math and English/grammar assistance. Bottom line, my son never mumbles or grumbles about a session booked with John, which speaks volumes, and as my son has said βI learned more from him than a year and a half in school!β"
"John worked with my son on the ACT. They worked on all subject areas of the ACT. My son was able to improve his score by 5 points. I would highly recommend John L for ACT tutoring."
"John has been teaching both my son and daughter on English and math subjects, He is very patient and prepared for the class. My daughter's math test score is improved through his help."
"John is an expert in helping you in any way possible; for me it was the ACT, and he was able to be patient if I couldnβt understand topics fast. His teaching style is very adaptable to your needs and always is willing to help you out. Highly recommend! "
"My son is preparing for the SAT, John has clarified a lot of things for him, and showed him ways to get to the answer faster! We are very satisfied with his services!"
"John is helping with the English section of the SAT and he's been great to work with. Our son is much more of a math mind so John was very quick to give guidance for a non-English student."
"John has been reviewing the Math and English modules of the SAT with my daughter. He is well organized, is able to quickly identify topics that need review and plans next steps. He also takes the time to provide a detailed and very helpful recap of the lesson and next steps to deepen the review. He is very patient and explains the material thoroughly and clearly."
"John helped my teen do last minute prep for the PSAT over 3 sessions. He had an organized an effective plan and worked well with my son. He was also flexible when we ran into timing issues and supplies resources."
"My son has had over a dozen lessons with John for SAT prep. John has been very thorough and patience. They reviewed areas of weakness from his last exam. My sonβs confident has grown and he feels ready for his exam."

Answers to parents' most common questions
If you're wondering how tutoring works, what kind of score jumps are realistic, or how to get started, you're in the right place.
How does tutoring with you work?
What kind of score improvements do students usually see?
How often do you recommend meeting?
Do you give homework between sessions?
Do you work well with anxious or low-confidence test takers?
Is tutoring online or in-person?
Are we locked into a long-term package?
We start with a diagnostic and a conversation about your goals, timeline, and current scores. From there, I build a custom plan that focuses on your student's specific weak spots. Each lesson mixes strategy, content review, and timed practice. After each session, you'll get a quick summary of what we covered and what's next.
Results vary by starting point and commitment, but many of my students see SAT increases of 100β300 points and ACT gains of 3β8 composite points over the course of a focused prep period. There are no guaranteed scores, but we'll use a structured plan and regular diagnostics so you can clearly track progress.
Most students meet once or twice per week. Once weekly works well for steady progress over a longer timeline. Twice weekly is ideal for students with upcoming test dates or who want faster score gains. We'll pick a schedule that fits your student's workload and test dates.
Yes. I assign targeted practice between sessions so students can reinforce what we've covered, not just 'do more problems.' Homework is usually a mix of timed sections, strategy drills, and review of missed questions. We use that work to shape the next lesson.
Absolutely. A big part of my job is helping students feel calmer and more in control on test day. We focus on building repeatable routines, eliminating avoidable mistakes, and giving them clear wins each week so confidence grows alongside scores.
Almost all of my tutoring is online, which allows flexible scheduling and easy access to digital practice tools. If you're local to the Framingham area and strongly prefer in-person lessons, feel free to reach out and we can discuss options.
No. While I'll recommend a timeline that makes sense for your goals, you're never locked into a long-term contract. You can start with a few sessions, see how it feels, and adjust as needed. My aim is to be a long-term partner, not a pressure-based program.
Many students begin light prep in the second half of sophomore year or early junior year, then ramp up more seriously 2β4 months before their target test dates. If you're on a shorter timeline, we can design a more intensive plan.
Both tests now overlap a lot in content, but some students naturally fit one format better than the other. I can help evaluate which test makes more sense after looking at practice scores, timing, and how your student thinks through problems.
Yes. Parents receive regular updates about what we're working on, how the student is progressing, and what I recommend next. You'll never be in the dark about how things are going.
